Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Things have really turned around since my "blah" day on Thursday! I was able to get through my cranky mood and even stayed on plan. Friday was much better, mood, food and exercise-wise. So far today looks like a good day too... I have plans to get out in my yard and do some gardening!
I'm a bit concerned about Memorial day though... It's also my middle son's B-day and we're planning a BBQ. I'll be making a healthy meal of chicken skewers and veggies with lots of other healthy sides (and not so healthy sides for those that choose to eat them)... but I'm nervous about the cake. His favorite cake is a homemade gold cake with fudge frosting that I make for him each year.... it's also my favorite cake! I'm hoping to avoid it completely... does anyone have some alternative recipes for cake that they can share? I don't mind making two cakes... one for him and one that I can enjoy (there are a couple of us in my family doing WW, so I'm sure they'd also appreciate a healthier option). Anything chocolate-y would be great!!
Hope everyone's having a great holiday weekend!

I agree, I'd rather eat a smaller portion and count accordingly. But, I do know there's many pretty good WW recipes. I made a cake-mix with diet coke, poked holes and poured no fat caramel topping, then spread with Lite cool whip. It was very good, and everyone ate it. The recipe was a WW - I bet you can find at the site. I'm pretty sure that was all it was, maybe two egg whites with the mix and diet coke. Also, I very much like mixing a can of sf crushed pineapple with angel food cake mix and spreading with cool whip too. Good luck!

Well, I have not had any luck finding a lower calorie cake that either tasted good, or was really worth the minor fewer calories per serving...so here is what I have done in the recent past for birthdays and special events: I make their fave cake (like you) now either make it smaller or do this: make your cake, have your son blow out the candles, cut it in half and give it to neighbors or trash it. Then cut the "bigger" slice for the bday boy and then distribute the rest to the family...of course this depends on how many people you are feeding...I fed four so we quartered the cake and I gave 3/4 away to the neighbors and we (the four of us) shared the last fourth. Coupled w/ a bit of low sugar ice cream was a perfect end to a fantastic dinner and birthday! And it turned out that even tho I was "splurging", I felt very comfortable w/ what I ate because it was a small serving, I got to partake in my daughters fave cake/bday event, AND there was NO LEFTOVERS so I didn't have the option to sneak in extra and fool myself into thinking it wasn't that much when we all know how much we can fool ourselves!

I hope this helps, but if you come across a good cake recipe then be sure to share!! Goodluck and happy eating!
