Just a quick check-in

Disneyland went smoothly. On day one I did give in and have a monte cristo sandwich, but with the walking I did during the day and lack of snacking, I'm pretty sure I was fine on calories. Instead of a larger dinner I just had a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and an apple. The second day was pretty successful as well. I'm happy with how it went. The only bad parts of the day included getting slammed with strollers (seriously, who lets their kids under 10 push the stroller through a VERY crowded t… Continue

Off to Disneyland!

Not much to post....I'm heading off to LA for a couple days to visit my sister and go to Disneyland with her (I'm a little obsessed with all things Disney, haha) Eating is *gradually* getting better. Breakfast was some cereal and my lunch was a sweet potato. I'm a little low on protein, but we're having a chicken and veggie stir fry for dinner. All in all I should be OK on calories for the day...little high, but MUCH better than where I've been. I didn't run the past two days...my asthma has r… Continue

Yes, I am still alive!

Just a quick note since I haven't posted in so long (a week, yikes!). I'm home in California, school is out until Mid-January, and my eating has been well...horrible. It certainly isn't horrible by my former standards, but certainly not within my calorie range. A BIG part of it was the end of semester crazies combined with holiday food EVERYWHERE and then, to ice the cake, my computer had to go in for repairs. I do ALL my tracking online, mainly because I often need to construct recipes or sear… Continue

The day I became a human garbage disposal

Today...eating...so. bad. It just snowballed all day long. I wasn't bingeing...just mindless snacking and at the end of the day I'm sure I was WAY over my calories. I think there were a couple factor contributing: 1) I didn't get enough sleep last night so my body was sending my brain signals to eat to stay energized. 2) My calorie deficit yesterday was around 1,300...that's 300 more than what's recommended for a 2 pound loss per week. In other words, I wasn't getting enough nutrition. 3) Fi… Continue

Holy (skinny) Cow!!! FIVE MILES?!?!?!

Today was our long run of the week....5 miles. Up until now, I've only jogged 3.5-3.6 without walk breaks. My goal today was 4 miles. Bless my running partner to high heaven....she convinced me (and so did a really nice and unexpected bit of self-determination) that I could keep going. I DID! I JOGGED 5 MILES!!! We stopped at the 2 mile, 3 mile, and 4 miles marks for sips of water, but other than that...I jogged the ENTIRE thing (12 min pace). We also did some walking to warm-up and cool down f… Continue

Brrrrr, it's cold outside!

It's chilly out there today! I used it as an excuse to make a turkey/chili/soup thing in the crockpot. :-) I'm a bit high on calories, but certainly not over (and that's including dinner which I haven't eaten and a possible starbucks run later tonight with a friend so she can vent/de-stress). Not a bad day overall though! I just couldn't do my full 3.5 miles on the track. That doesn't surprise me though. This was the first week I'd done 3.5 without stopping and I did it twice. We also had to m… Continue

Wins on the scale and the track!

Feeling a lot better today! My calorie consumption is just over 1,600 for the day (1,625 to be precise), so I'm just where I like to be. A can even throw in a 100 calorie or so snack later if I really need it, though I just had a Subway sandwich so I doubt I'll want one. AND, though I ate candy, it was just one serving. That's fine with me. You can't cut it out of your life completely and expect to win this battle. :-) I weighed in this morning at 200.8 which makes a LOT more sense than the 20… Continue

Trying to make sense of it all

I weighed in this morning at 202.2...that would be up by .6 pounds. I'm really not buying it. While I had a couple days the flirted just under 2,000 calories, with my current weight and the running I really don't think I should be posting a gain. I actually weighed in last week on Tuesday, so I'm going to see what tomorrow brings. My dinner out on Saturday wasn't healthy, but it also wasn't horrible and didn't count as a calorie disaster for the day, especially since I put in a solid 4+ miles on… Continue

Officially registered for a half marathon!

I can't believe I'm registered to run 13.1 miles in May! WOW! I'm really excited about this race...it's around a resevoir so there are several bridges to cross, lots of trees and views of the water. Extra bonus: the proceeds go to raising funds for health and wellness programs in schools! I really wish someone had intervened with me as a kid to put me on the right track, so I'm really glad the money goes towards that cause. Registering was a little hard. I'm obviously nervous about running 13.… Continue

3.5 miles? NO PROBLEM!

Thank you SO SO much for the comments yesterday (Shannon and Jeannie I'm talking to you!). I was VERY apprehensive about attempting to do the full run today. I got to the gym and it was packed. Apparently there was a state invitational gymnastics competition going on. Honestly, that really helped my mental state- it was a great distraction while running! I got through 2 miles no problem...in fact my words to my friend were "We're done with 2 miles already???" Around 2.4 miles I started to hit a… Continue

Tomorrow's run = Scary!

After my running partner was talking to her roommate (a marathon runner), he mentioned we should start upping our running segments a bit. This means that tomorrow will be a big push for me.....she wants to shoot to run the whole 3.5 miles! YIKES! I reminded her that I am coming from a lot further behind than she is. A month ago I could barely eek out 1 mile. I know it might be frustrating for her to have to wait for me to progress, but I also know that establishing my running "base" is the harde… Continue

Caffeine Overload, but I DID IT!

Wooooooooooeeeeee! This week was ROUGH! But I got through it! (I don't have class on Fridays, so Thursdays are my Fridays.) I still have more work to do, but at normal levels that don't require hours in the library and far too much coffee. :-) Anywho, pretty decent day. My running partner and I rescheduled our run for Saturday. We have one day of rest a week, so we swapped it with today's run to give both of us more time for schoolwork. I'm looking forward to the gym Saturday too! I used to LO… Continue

Exhausted and stressed, but I worked out!

It's been a LONG day and promises to be a long night. I got up after about 5 hours of sleep (yuck) and headed to the gym with my running buddy. We got in a 3.5 mile run....I ran 2.4 miles, walked .1, jogged .3, walked .4, and then jogged .4. Sorry that's so hard to follow....the point is I upped my consecutive run by .2, though I feel I could've done more if I hadn't been running in the AM. I do so much better at night, mainly because I'm not going into it after a nightlong fast (I never get up… Continue

2nd post of the day (hey, making up for a week off!)

I saw Roni's post and wanted to do the same. I'm confident I'll do fine with my goals while here at school in Indiana, but I'm nervous about going home and letting old routines get the best of me. So here are my resolutions! 1. Talk about the half marathon to anyone and everyone. Not to be annoying, but because talking about it means people will know - and notice- if you aren't doing your scheduled… Continue

Weigh-in Post Thanksgiving

Last week was not what I'd hoped it to be...I was over my calorie goals on 3 days AND missed all my workouts after Tuesday. I really was not expecting good results this week. BUT! Somewhere, somehow the weight loss gods were smiling a warm sunny smile on my soul. That or the stress of schoolwork and using the good ol' noggin burns a lot more calories than I give it credit for. Overall result? Down a pound from last week! So now I'm at 201.6! This week's motivation? GET BELOW 200! I should ad… Continue

A week of not blogging....YIKES

Ok, I'm back! Last week was the epitomy of crazy. This week will be a little hectic, but manageable. Once I get through this week I will literally have TWO assignments left for the semester....to be completed in two weeks. I think I can handle that. :-) So Thanksgiving....yea....about that.... Actual Thanksgiving Day was a success. I missed my workouts last week. I'm not going to overly beat myself up for one week. Food wise I was fine on Thanksgiving...probably even a little low on calories.… Continue

Back on the workout bandwagon

After 3 days off I'm glad to say I made it back to the gym! I had a 4 miles run scheduled for today. My goal was to get in 2.4 miles consecutive before walking. My friend was having a really rough time (no idea why....she can easily jog 3+ miles) and felt nauseous at 2 miles. We stopped to walk and let her recover/get a few sips of water. After a couple of laps walking she was good to go and we jogged 3 more laps, follwed by walking one, jogging two, and cooling down with two laps of walking. A… Continue

Weigh In (-1.4)

It was a hard week. Very stressed and un unexpected early hormonal event that caught me off guard. Nonetheless, it is true that consistency is better than trying to be perfect. I weighed in this morning (a bit apprehensive since I peeked last night and was 205...that's what I get for peeking at the opposite time of day when I normally weigh in. I know better). Anywho, I was down 1.4 pounds! That puts me at 202.6. I'm not setting any goals for this week in terms of how much I'd like to lose. My… Continue

Actually looking forward to weigh in!

How can it be that I'm EXCITED about stepping on the scale? Is it true I missed two workouts this week? Yes. Is it true too many of my calories came from sugar this week? Yes again. BUT I also did good things. I worked out on 4 of my 6 scheduled days. During those 4 days I lifted weights, did yoga, stretched, and ran a total of almost 10 miles. I was within my calories every day and didn't let a couple bad midday decisions derail my whole day. I've accepted there will be times I will hav… Continue

This week's sneaky culprit behind it all!

First off, thank you for the lovely comments on yesterday's post. Comments like that truly do make the difference when you're having a rough day. Today was a bit better. I only got about 3.5 hours of sleep and a 30 minute nap because of group meetings and other work I needed to get done. I'm hanging in there....Tuesday will signal a HUGE decrease in the amount of work to get done. I fully plan on cranking up fun holiday songs and making my house absolutely SPOTLESS before my sister gets into to… Continue
