Profile Information

About Me:
I am 22 years am living in South Korea for the year teaching English at an all-girls middle school. Before I came to Korea, I worked my ass off (literally) and lost 50 pounds with help from Weight Watchers :) Since moving to Korea in August I have gained over 35 pounds and am soo unimpressed with myself. Things just aren't as easy over here - gyms, healthy food - they just aren't as accesible and combined with severe homsickness well that's just a recipe for disaster. I am going to be in Korea until August 2010 and then am heading back to school for Teacher's College. I am determined to get this weight off (and maybe a little more)before I move back home no matter how hard it may be over here!!

Spinning in Korea

In Canada, I absolutely LOVED spinning! I would go 3 times a week and I just adored how I felt after finishing a class. In Korea, classes like the ones you can find at gyms at home are not really common. So my first day back on track is going really well! I woke up an extra 15 minutes early so I could walk the 45-minute walk to school. It was kinda chilly but definitely better than when I tried to do it in the summer and was arriving at school dripping with sweat. Struggling at 220.6...

I bought a new scale yesterday because I needed a digital one that weighed me in pounds not kilograms and boy oh boy - I'm weighing in this morning at 220.6 pounds...NOT good! Over a year ago when I started to lose weight I weighed 237.8....that means I've only lost 17 pounds since then...I've gained 34.6 pounds since being in Korea - 34.6 pounds in FOUR MONTHS! Hey Stephanie. I just want to say that you can do this. You have done it before so you can do it again. Yes you moved and your environment is different, but now you can make things work again. Use this tool to keep your motivation up. You started a group and that will definitely keep you going. I will stay on here and keep you motivated if you want a friend. Hiya! I hear you on the drinking crowd esp at this stage in your life. This sounds awful, but can you stick to lower cal options? I am a big Vodka and club soda gal with lime - still adds up, but not as fast as a daquiri! What about starting a game night? Not sure what your options are over there... Also, this is coming from the old 32 year old over here ;), but honestly clubs are fun, but not forever. My best friend from high school still goes out almost 4 nights a week and it is just sad at this point. Make sure whatever you are doing that YOU are having fun (not just doing what other people think is fun). Talk to you soon!

I have been beating myself up SO bad this morning and feeling horrible because I ate so incredibly much yesterday and it's frustrating. So your words were just what I needed to hear- thank you! Hey, thanks so much for the photo compliments & for checking up on me :) I've still been reading blogs but haven't really felt like posting lately. I probably should since it kept me so much more accountable for working out. Things are going pretty well though. I've been sticking to my goal of being active every day about 80% of the time and I'm getting back into running again.
I just read your last blog post so it sounds like things are going well for you! I love the positive attitude that you've got :)

Glad to hear that you had a good time in Seoul, it sounds HUGE!

Unfortunately things have not been going according to plan over here either. I have been having a lot of trouble with my knees (no idea what it is yet other than bad knees) and since I have been doing girl push ups on my knees the challenge has only been aggravating the situation so I have halted that for now. I got to the point where I could do 40 consecutive push ups though which was huge for me! I hope that soon I will be able to pick it back up again hopefully part way through the program and then see it through to the end.
