About Me:
I am 23, a nursing student, and live in Canada. I love to go for runs with my dog and go to group exercise at my gym. I have been trying to lose the same 20 lbs for as long as I can remember... now I am ready to buckle down and go for it!!

Running

Running is my new drug. I love it, I love everything about it. When I run I feel free, like nothing else matters. I can momentarily forget about how lonely it feels when my fiance is out of town for weeks on end for work, or how sad I am for the kids I see everyday at work, or how crappy I ate the night before. Update!

I think it was a bit unrealistic of me to think I would write out plans and post on my progress everyday. Life just gets too busy for that, so instead I am going to commit to posting 3 times/week. As you may have guessed from my status, I had a pretty rough day on Saturday. I even told myself 'it's a cheat day so who cares'. That was a mistake I regret. I went to McDonald's and it was gross. 0.2 loss, not amazing... but I am still happy!

So this morning I had my official weigh-in at WW... 152.8 was the grand total. I was really hoping to be at 152 or less this week, but it just means I have to work that much harder this week. I really would love a 1 lb/week loss until I hit 145, then I can set that as my goal weight and stop paying WW!!
Today is all over the map for food... I have had a bunch of fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, cheese, 2 spoons of peanut butter, some cheese (2 oz), chicken noodle soup, and 2 flatbreads. Yah, don't ask...… Continue

Quinoa review

So yesterday I tried quinoa for the first time. It was a good experience, but at the same time there were some drawbacks. Here's a pros and cons list:
Pros:
-A core food
-High in fiber
-Great source of minerals and an antioxidant
-Very filling
-Good texture
-Quick and easy to make
Cons:
-Expensive ($4/375g)
-Has a slightly bitter aftertaste, didn't notice this once I mixed it with corn
-If given the choice between this or brown rice I would likely choose brown rice--purely based on the taste. Qu… Continue

153.8... better but still up!

Ok, so since yesterday I am down 0.8 lbs which reaffirms my belief that a lot of the random 1.6 gain was from water... but there is still a 0.8 gain there!! So I believe a big part of it was water retention, but ignoring my full/hunger signals was another major factor. Tomorrow is my official WW weigh-in, I was really hoping to be between 151-152 but I am no longer sure this is possible. It would mean losing at least 1.8 lbs today. Hey Jill. CORE brownies sound yummy, but the wierd thing is that my pregnant body hasn't been handling sweets too well?! The thought of sweets makes me a little queazy. Not sure what that is about! I have been craving lots of fresh fruit though, so I am getting my sweet fix.

Jill, Thanks for the comment about the neti pot- I have tried that before (though not this time). I thought it was just a cold first, so I wasn't using anything to flush out my nose, I think this one caught me by surprise. The neti pot is a great thing though!

Thanks for the comment on my blog post. You are right about focusing on the big picture. Sometimes I can worry way too much about the details! Overall, I am doing well health-wise.

I have been doing psych nursing since about 1984. I love it. It is challenging but I love it. My oldest son is a college freshman, majoring in psych. Good Luck with your psych rotation.
