Lots of New Things

We were actually able to get into our new school EARLY! I didn't know that happened with construction projects. We were able to get into our classrooms on Friday and Saturday when we weren't scheduled to be in until Monday, so that is awesome. The new building is really pretty, and our classrooms are the exact same. They might be a tiny bit bigger, but it's hard to tell. It's been easy to get things arranged since everything is so similiar. We have the same type desk, filing cabinet, and storage… Continue

Still Around

I'm still around, but I got addicted to a series of books and have been reading nonstop. I have two more books in the series to go, and then I'll return to normal. This is my last week of summer before in-service starts next week. My feelings range from immense dread to mild excitement about school starting.

I had a three pound loss last week, so I'm hoping that trend continues.

I've been staying on point but haven't necessarily been angelic. My mom wanted us to go to Olive Garden with her. I… Continue

Lots of Excitement

Well I'm back from camp, and boy was it an interesting week. Our youth had a good time, and the husband and I ended up having quite the experience. The camp was a mission camp, and one of the missions was a sports camp for the local kids. The county we were in is one of the poorest in the state. They divide the kids into groups and have activities and Bible study for them. The husband and I got assigned to follow one of the kids around to watch him because he always caused trouble in past years.… Continue

Leaving Tomorrow

We leave for camp tomorrow. I've got my list of food that I can cook in the microwave so hopefully I won't get tired of the food. We have tons of packing and preparation that despite our relaxed schedule, we've saved for today of course. I had another headache last night, so we didn't get to go to the store last night. I plan to cook a good lunch and dinner today so that I can enjoy two last home cooked meals. I've got taco soup currently simmering on the stove.

I had lunch with my two teacher… Continue

Icecream Find

I've been doing pretty well. I was hungry a lot yesterday, but I'm doing better today. I discovered some delicious icecream. It's Breyer's fried ice cream. It's cinnamon and caramel with tostada pieces in it. It's 3 points for a half cup. I spent much of today researching on the internet about possible books for my 8th graders to read. Our district changed up our reading list and put the two books that I always read on different grades. It seems like 8th grade got stuck with leftovers because no… Continue

I was curious because I got sucked into, of all things, the Twilight series--I hung in for so long, refusing to read them, but I had to because so many of my students were. I also recently read The Hunger Games and the 2nd book is about to come out--I can't wait!!

part of the reason I like teaching is that it's always changing..... however, probably the reason why it'll never be *easy* either! hahaha.... too bad we can't press the easy button.

I saw those "just make 1" directions, but decided I'd rather just do the whole batch. I cut them into 16 and found one surprisingly satisfying. I wrapped 2 more in a baggie and brought them to the Boyfriend's and the rest I wrapped individually and put in a freezer bag. They'll be safe from snack attacks that way! :D

The new school is in a much smaller district. It's a traditional high school--9-12. I'll be teaching 9th and 10th grade English. I heard my new district is a lot less in your face about things and they let you go off the curriculum guide (which is truly a guide this time instead of the very specific novels, handouts, etc. I was supposed to use this year) to plan your lessons, which will be nice. I am excited about the autonomy I will have, and the smaller class sizes! The one thing I will miss is the big computer labs and the HUGE media center. That library seriously had some good selections.

How was your year?

We got married on the exact same day (same year and everything!)--how cool is that?!? My first year was really hard. I never imagined going to school full time and teaching full time would be so difficult. On top of it all, the admin. had given me all the kids that no one else wanted. I can't say it was all bad, though. I had a student buy me flowers and write me a very touching thank you note for being her teacher. I had many other students write letters to my future students saying how lucky they are to be in my class. So, all in all, while it was really really hard, it was truly rewarding. I'll be teaching in a different school in a different district this coming year, so it will all be a new start....almost like I'm a first-year teacher again!
