I bought one of the pairs you have shown. (Dance Now Unisex Split-Sole Canvas Dance Sneaker) from Discount Dance through Amazon.com and was disappointed in them. I thought they would be so much easier to dance in, but it made it worse. My feet felt…

I just got new dance fitness shoes today and I think they are going to make a huge difference. They are like the capezio ones in the link you sent me earlier (the brand is Bloch). VERY comfortable. The Nike Musiques are too narrow for me. I only wor…

I had my first male Zumba instructor tonight. He was great! He did all the sexy moves that the female instructors do and he was a real character. There was also a 60-something guy all by himself in the back of the room doing the class too, it was pa…

That is fabulous that you and your husband can share the same passion around a healthy lifestyle. My hubby looks healthy (175, 6'3"), but eats like crap most days and doesn't take a second look on any of it. His only form of exercise is hockey one o…

About Me:
I have always loved exercise but also love to eat. As I get older, I need to adjust my calories to my slower metabolism and keep my exercise up. I also live in a really fun town and have great friends so it's hard to stay in my ideal calorie range when it's so easy to socialize and many times we have spontaneous get togethers. My husband is fabulous, totally supportive and is my work out partner. He's in great shape and also loves to work out. I love to cook, and he will eat anything I make for him :)

let's talk about the spouse/partner/friend...

My husband is wonderful, he motivates me, loves to work out, loves to eat healthy and we both track our food and exercise on our iPhone apps. We both take responsibility for our actions and don't lean too hard on the other one when someone goes off course for a day or two. I am sooo lucky and grateful to have him as my work out partner as well. That's the good stuff.

The only annoying part is that he loses weight so much faster than me and he can have a lot more calories than I can because he d… Continue

TOM, inflammation and my diet

I want to share something I learned my from gyn doctor last year about TOM (since that is such a popular topic :). I talked to her about how I had bad cramps. Since it totally throws off my whole week I was really getting sick of it. She told me about the effects of eating certain food on inflammation (which is a cause of cramps) and said if I change my diet even for just the week before I get TOM, I should feel a change.

She said that certain foods contain arachidonic acid which is a fat assoc… Continue

Halloween Candy

Well, I'm seeing the stores stocked with the wicked halloween candy (and xmas decorations, but that's another rant). We don't get many tricker treaters but we always buy some b/c you never know when someone will show up and you want to give them something good. I never worry about eating the candy though b/c I'm not really into sweets (more of a pizza person, haha) but I will still eat some of it. So what ALWAYS works for me is to buy the candy I don't like. For me it's anything with processed c… Continue

Hi Amy! I do have friends that enjoy working out like I do, but it is so hard to find a time that is good for both of us with different class schedules. I think we are going to a few group fitness classes next week so that should increase my motivation a bit! Thanks for your comment though! It is so nice to have support from people who have the same mindset and such great ideas:)

Hi Amy! The hubby and I are taking a "Basic Techniques" cooking class. We're learning proper knife skills, braising, roasting, frying, etc. My hubby and I both thought we were pretty good cooks, but are glad we started with this class. It challenges what our smarty-pants-selves we thought we already knew! Italian sounds delicious too! I think that will be our next series.

I know, pictures can be the worst! But I just looked at your pictures and you look fantastic. sometimes we are our worst critics! I love that you said you wake up feeling great and looking forward to putting on your clothes, I often feel the same way. I just bought a new outfit this weekend and it felt fantastic to put it on this morning. I hope you are having a great day!

Hey Amy! I always like to poke my friends when I haven't seen a post in a while. We are definitely a community and I hope that my "friends" would do the same. I HATE TOM and pre-TOM weeks. Things are going well. Took a break from working out this week and it's proving to work for kicking me off the plateau. Look forward to reading your new post!

Hey Amy~ You asked for the Cauliflower Soup Recipe~ Here it goes~ One stick butter melted in a pot, add in diced sweet onion (1), 3-4 stalks celery-diced, 3 carrots-diced, cook until soft, add in diced cauliflower head and parsley... cook for a few minutes, stirring occ. Add in 2 quarts chicken stock (or veg stock), simmer for 15 min. Pour in a cup or two of half and half, and one cup 1% milk with enough corn starch to make soup creamy (eyeball it). Dice up some asparagus, or whatever other veggie you got a hankering for. I love to add red pepper, black pepper, minced garlic and just eat a heaping bowl with cheddar cheese on top. It makes a very hearty lunch *or* dinner! Enjoy!

The 30 Day Shred is by Jillian Michaels (from the Biggest Loser). It's a 20 minute kicka** workout. There are 3 levels of intensity. It's pretty incredible. I love it! I took about 3 weeks off of it and felt awful (I didn't replace it with anything other than running). I learned that I need my strength training and toning on top of my cardio. So strange that I feel that way...just a few short months ago I was complaining about exercising, now I can't wait to do it!

Hi Amy! Thanks for your comment. One day with my iPhone and I'm in heaven! I'll look into that LoseIt! app. I currently use livestrong.com or all my food/exercise tracking. Livestrong has an app on the iPhone too, but I'm kinda disappointed. Not nearly as good as their website. Look forward to following your blog!
