Glad to hear from you! It sounds like you are doing the right thing, looking at where you are adding those extra 20-30 calories makes a big difference. I, too, find myself less motivated in the cooler months- no impending public bathing suit expos...

Rachel, thank you for your candid posts! You are such an amazing woman for allowing yourself to be so vulnerable and really sharing your innermost thoughts. I wonder if some support from other women would be good, is there maybe a women's bible st...

wow. that's a really good point, and one I haven't thought of. I'm guilty of making those comments to my kids...i think i should rethink what i say and how i say it. i don't mean that they can't have it, like you said, treats are best eaten slowly...

My daughter is 8. I turn myself inside out to hide my struggles with food from her. I never say if something is fattening, I only say if something is "healthy" or not. I make a point of letting her have a little bit of junk food everyday (although...

I think saying that it is more of a special occasion food might shine a better light on it. High Calorie doesn't mean 'forbidden'! Just not everyday.

Instilling a positive food mentality in our kids

As I continue on my journey from an overweight young woman who mindlessly ate bags of Doritos to a mother who is constantly trying to teach her three children the concept of "everything in moderation", I am constantly thinking about my own childhood eating habits, and what I can do to develop in my children a healthy attitude about food. Something happened the other day that my mind keeps coming back to. The other day I was walking through our local warehouse store and there was a mother and her… Continue

intuitive eating...

I read Rachel's post last night on intuitive eating. Basically, eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full, and eating what you want to eat so you don't feel deprived. I did great after tallying up my points, except for the two cupcakes I ate but hey those are not always around so I don't feel too bad. I am counting 5 points for the two since they were small ones, which puts me at the upper end for my points for the day. Interesting how when we eat they way we should we do so well… Continue

great start to a Sunday

This morning I woke up before anyone else, made my coffee and sat outside enjoying our cooler morning weather! It was heavenly :) I planned my meals for the day- I am feeling bloated so I am starting South Beach phase 1 today- my goal is to make it day by day all week on plan and see where I am at the end. Two full weeks on phase 1 is my goal and I know I can do it, it will take planning and effort on my part and I am up for the task. I know I will feel so much better by the end. I am also plann… Continue

feeling like I am running in circles

They say the last 10 pounds are the hardest, and I am really understanding that now. I am getting really frustrated/mad at myself. I keep going through this cycle of being totally motivated to lose these last 10 pounds and I do so well for 3 days, then I slouch off and do something really self-destructive like eat ice cream...setting myself up for more cravings later and the cycle repeats itself. Tonight I did really well and then gave in to temptation- I had the leftover hot dog from the kids'… Continue

I'm feeling awesome

I have stuck to my healthy eating plan for two days in a row. This is a big deal for me. I haven't stuck to the plan for consecutive days in a long, long time. I have that great feeling again, the feeling that I can do this, that I have nothing standing in my way, that I am strong. I have been working out- and it shows! ;-) Yesterday I did the walk/jog combo again and LOVED it. It feels so great to finish that 2 minute sprint and then walk again, LOL! Working out totally motivates me to eat well… Continue

Sure I can start posting some of my meals... it makes me laugh when you say I'm always so good at balancing. I guess in the past I have but this month has been ROUGH. But maybe that will motivate me to eat healthier! I hope your week is going well!

Thank you Alison... thank you so much! I appreciate it so much that you are praying for me. It also helps to know someone else has been there (with the debt thing). I'm sure so many people struggle with it but don't say anything. Dave Ramsey is awesome! My husband and I started taking the class at our church before my daughter was born but then I had her and we didn't go back... so I will definitely check out that book. What a great idea! Thanks so much for caring.

Alison..thank you for the beautiful words! You are so sweet and very encouraging! I also look up to you and what YOU have accomplished! Good luck with Phase 1. I did it too and lost my last five pounds. Then...I transitioned into clean eating which is very similiar to phase 2 and 3. South Beach was the only thing that could get those last five off and now Im maintaining. It was hard at first but I adjusted. Have a fun trip and enjoy yourself. Pack a small cooler for yourself with healthy foods so its always available...that really helps!

Yes, I now eat all my ap's and all my flex. My daily target is supposed to be 19 points a day, but I've been staying at 20 the past few days. So the 25-27 points is just an average, some days are higher some are lower. I do feel satisfied at that range though. How often do I eat bread? Well I can't remember the last time I ate a piece of bread. I just don't find sandwiches filling enough to be worth the points. But I do eat whole wheat english muffins pretty often. I do usually try to stick to filling foods, like I generally avoid crackers/chips or those 100cal packs and stuff. But to a certain extent, I also eat what I want pretty often (i.e. donuts and taco bell) and just count points for it. So I guess it's a mix of both!

Hey. It may seem like a good amount but it doesn't feel like it with the last few weeks being 1.5 or less, mostly 1lb or less. I started out with big numbers and I think that is why the average is so high. Maybe I am too hard on myself and should give myself more credit. I just think its crazy I hired a personal trainer and have only lost 18lbs, just to me I feel like I should be losing more. Then again...I have to eat good too, duh me!
