Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

I HATE eggs, except when they are in my favorite baked goods. I would LOVE some ideas for a high protein breakfast that does not involve eggs. I've been eating low sugar oatmeal and low sugar chocolate milk for breakfast, but I think it makes me feel like I'm in a slump to start my day. I'm doing WW, so I am trying to stick with low fat, and high fiber.

Hi Erin! Before I ditched dairy, I ate cottage cheese in the morning. It is shockingly good when mixed in with the oatmeal and really high in protein. Try making your oatmeal, letting it cool just a little, then adding a half cup of cottage cheese (I used 1% as the no-fat wasn't as good a texture), a spoonful of unsweetened applesauce and some cinnamon. Stir together & enjoy!

Here's my suggestion Erin! I just read in your blog that you're a big yogurt and fruit person (me too) so I thought you might enjoy my morning smoothies! They're surprisingly filling and delicious, but won't give you that "slumpy" feeling all day.

2 containers of yogurt : (i usually use yoplait light)
1/2 cup frozen fruit
3/4 cup light vanilla soy milk
1 TBL honey
3 TBL flax seed
2 TBL protein powder

Combine everything in a blender! Makes two large glasses (about 16oz each.) I usually drink one, and pop the blender with the lid into the fridge for the next morning on-the-go! =)

This recipe is SO versatile and adaptable. I've made a million different smoothies with this basic formula. Strawberry yogurt with banana, chocolate soy milk with strawberries, lemon yogurt with blueberries, WOW! all great =)

The flax seed is optional of course, but I like getting the extra fiber and the little seeds in the smoothie. Depending on what kind of yogurt you use you may have to adjust the milk as well =) I'm not a huge dairy person, so I use the Soy milk. I would highly recommend having protein powder on hand. It helps for recipes like this ... or those mornings where you don't feel like "eating" anything.

I like to mix ricotta cheese with Lite Vanilla Yogurt and then I add some walnuts and raisins (maybe some chopped fruit like apples) for extra fiber and ground flaxseed (good omega 3's) to add more of a nutty flavor. I'll mix in a little Low Fat milk to give it more of a pudding texture or sometimes omit it for a more creamy texture. I just had some this morning, good also as a dessert snack plus it looks like ice cream and doesn't make me feel like I'm missing out. Beware, people are likely to peek over your shoulder for a bite lol.

Erin, I realize you posted this awhile ago but I have an idea. Roni posted a recipe on Green Lite Bites a while ago called Chocolate Quinoa, it uses soy milk. I have attached a link. With the quinoa and the soy milk it is very high in protein and yummy too. Here is a link: http://greenlitebites.com/index.php?s=chocolate+quinoa

We went to a weight loss clinic and part of the "diet" was to eat a high protein breakfast.

We eat lean meats for breakfast.
I know it sounds weird to eat ham, chicken or sometimes hamburger for breakfast, it's worked for us.

Protein shakes were listed as a good choice, as well as protein "bullets".

We sometimes have chicken burritos for breakfast - ww wrap with shredded cheese heated in ff salsa and ff cheese. Yummy. This is some fruit is one of my favourite breakfasts. We eat oatmeal most days but it does get boring.
